Mystery Monday

August 26, 2019

It's Mystery Monday on The Princess and the Pen, where I highlight a few mystery novels on my radar. I come across so many mysteries on Goodreads, from social media and word-of-mouth recommendations and Mystery Monday will feature a small selection of those. Some are debut authors, others well-established. One thing they all have in common, though, is that they might make my to-read mountain topple over!

If you would like to participate in Mystery Monday on your blog, feel free to use the image and please link back to The Princess and the Pen:-)

Happy Reading!

Good Little Liars by Sarah Clutton

"It’s been twenty-five years since Emma graduated from Denham House Girls’ School, and twenty-five years since her friend Tessa died. Now, just as a class reunion approaches, Emma has found herself back at Denham House, staying in the headmaster’s old staff cottage while her marriage implodes. But it’s in this cottage that Emma finds an old photograph that had been hidden away. An explicit image of Tessa, staring boldly at the camera, dated the day before she died. For Emma, this photo proves what she had always suspected. Jon Brownley, the current headmaster, was involved with Tessa. Emma had seen them arguing in the school grounds back then, and had always regretted not speaking up after her friend’s death was ruled an accident. She feels that she let her down. But if she can find more evidence now, could it be her chance to atone? However, as Emma starts to dig into the past, talking to old friends back home for the reunion, she discovers that everyone remembers the past differently and that the innocent schoolgirls she thought she knew might be hiding some very big secrets."

Date Night by Samantha Hayes

"Returning early from a disastrous date night with my husband, I know something is wrong the moment the wheels crunch the gravel drive of our home. Inside, the TV is on and a half-eaten meal waits on the table. My heart stops when I find our little girl is alone in the house and our babysitter, Sasha, is missing…Days later, when I’m arrested for Sasha’s murder and torn away from my perfect little family, I’ll wish I had told someone about the threatening note I received that morning.I’ll hate myself for not finding out who the gift hidden inside my husband’s wardrobe was for.I’ll scream from the rooftops that I’m innocent – but no one will listen.I will realise I was completely wrong about everything that happened that night…But will you believe me?"
