Today I am joining the blog tour for Jane Lambert's new book, The Start of Something Wonderful. The author has generously agreed to a little Q&A, discussing her book and her writing process. Happy reading!
What initially got you interested in writing?
I’ve always had a vivid imagination, and as a child I loved writing stories. I still find myself escaping into my imagination when I’m travelling, standing in queues or hanging around theatre dressing rooms as an understudy! I find writing therapeutic and always carry a notebook and pen with me.
What do you want readers to take away from reading your works?
I want them to be inspired; to believe that, although life can be tricky at times, keeping a sense of humour and a positive attitude can bring about a change for the better.
What do you find most rewarding about writing?
Being in control! I am an actress and accustomed to speaking someone else’s words while being given direction. Being a writer, you make the character and plot choices.
What do you find most challenging about writing?
Being disciplined and finding a writing/life balance. I also find it hard sometimes to keep my old enemy, self-doubt at bay.
How did you go about publishing your book?
Initially I published through Amazon KDP and Create Space, but always hoped to find a traditional publisher. I sent my manuscript to various literary agents. When HQ Digital at Harper Collins eventually offered me a book deal it was a dream come true. It goes to show if you really want something you must keep trying and never give up.
What type of books do you enjoy reading?
I have a wide taste in books: from Jane Austen to David Nicholls. I’m also fascinated by space exploration and devour any factual books on this subject.
How do you like to spend time when not writing?
I’m lucky to live opposite a beautiful park and enjoy cycling, horse riding, going for long walks and yoga.
What is your next project?
I’m writing the sequel to The Start of Something Wonderful, entitled Marriage, Mafia & Mozzarella, as well as a 6-part comedy drama for TV, with a working title of Winging It.
Thanks for answering my questions and best of luck!
Thank you for having me on your lovely blog!
