This Week in Books
This Week in Books is a fun meme hosted by Lipsyy Lost and Found. In this post I look back on a book I've finished, highlight one I am currently reading, and one I will read in the near future. What are you reading these days?
THEN: I finished Dear Martin by Nic Stone. It's a short book about Justyce, a teenager who has to deal with being one of the only black boys in a private school, and trying to find his identity. It's called Dear Martin because he writes letters to Martin Luther King Jr., which adds an interesting element to the story. He struggles with some of King's tenets, but admires him, too. This book was so well written and though similar stories like The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas are getting way more attention, I really hope this one will, too, because it is well-written and definitely thought-provoking. Look for a more detailed review in the near future:-) Recommended!
NOW: I'm about halfway through Sarah Rees Brennan's In Other Lands and am really enjoying it . The story is difficult to describe, it's YA, fantasy and social criticism all in one. It's my first book by the author, but if the second half is as good as the first, it won't b my last. Have you read it?
NEXT: I think I will read City of Lies by Victoria Thompson next. It sounds like a combination of my very favorite things - 1920s, history, mystery and, added to that, it's set in DC, where I live! Further, I have read eighteen other books by this author, so I know I like her style. Fingers crossed it will be as enjoyable and long-lasting as her Gaslight Mysteries series!
