6 Books to Make You Laugh and Cry

“One benefit of Summer was that each day we had more light to read by.” ― Jeannette Walls, The Glass Castle

With summer coming to an end (how is it already the middle of August?!), I have been looking for books that were light, but not fluff, clever, but not pretentious, gripping, but not gory to break out of my crime fiction rut. It's not easy to find books that are both thoughtful and funny without being totally predictable, so I thought I would compile a little list of perfect end-of-summer (or anytime, really) reads. They are not terribly new, because lately I have had a hard time finding books to fit the above requirements. If you have any recommendations, I would be grateful:-) In the meantime, happy reading!

Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes

Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
