Mystery Monday!

June 12, 2017

It's Mystery Monday on The Princess and the Pen, where I highlight a few mystery novels on my radar. I come across so many mysteries on Goodreads, from social media and word-of-mouth recommendations and Mystery Monday will feature a small selection of those. Some are debut authors, others well-established. One thing they  all have in common, though, is that they  might make my to-read mountain topple over! This week's books are some of the newest or soon-to-be released mysteries I am looking forward to this summer.

Happy Reading!

Emma in the Night by Wendy walker is up first this week. This is another one of my NetGalley acquisitions and a number of my Goodreads friends have already given it glowing reviews. Publication Date 18 August 2017.

"From the bestselling author of All Is Not Forgotten comes a thriller about two missing sisters, a twisted family, and what happens when one girl comes back...One night five years ago, the Tanner sisters disappeared: fifteen-year-old Cass and seventeen-year-old Emma. Three years later, Cass returns, without her sister Emma. Her story is one of kidnapping and betrayal, of a mysterious island where the two were held. But to forensic psychiatrist Dr. Abby Winter, something doesn't add up. Looking deep within this dysfunctional family Dr. Winter uncovers a life where boundaries were violated and a narcissistic parent held sway. And where one sister's return might just be the beginning of the crime."

Next up is All the Wicked Girls by Chris Whitaker. This book is published by one of my favorite publishers Bonnier Zaffre, which has been producing some excellent page-turners.

Publication Date 24 August 2017.

"Everyone loves Summer Ryan. A model student and musical prodigy, she's a ray of light in the struggling small town of Grace, Alabama - especially compared to her troubled sister, Raine. Then Summer goes missing. Grace is already simmering, and with this new tragedy the police have their hands full keeping the peace. Only Raine throws herself into the search, supported by a most unlikely ally. But perhaps there was always more to Summer than met the eye . . .A gripping crime novel with a huge heart, this is the second novel from the exceptionally talented Chris Whitaker. "

Caz Frea's Sweet Little Lies rounds out this week's featured books. It's a debut, and I am always interested in reading new authors, plus I've been hearing it is for fans of Erin Kelly (of He said/She Said and Broadchurch), and I definitely count myself as one of them:-)

"What happens when the trust has gone?Cat Kinsella was always a daddy's girl. Until the summer of 1998 when she sees her father flirting with seventeen-year-old Maryanne Doyle. When Maryanne later disappears and Cat's father denies ever knowing her, Cat's relationship with him is changed forever. Eighteen years later, Cat is now a Detective Constable with the Met. Called to the scene of a murder in Islington, she discovers a woman's body: Alice Lapaine has been found strangled, not far from the pub that Cat's father runs. When evidence links Alice to the still missing Maryanne, all Cat's fears about her father resurface. Could he really be a killer? Determined to confront the past and find out what really happened to Maryanne all those years ago, Cat begins to dig into the case. But the problem with looking into the past is that sometimes you might not like what you find."
